This week I learned the importance of hiring ethical people and having the
ability to execute from this week's readings and videos. When it comes to
business it is crucial to celebrate innovative ideas and the ability to take
risks. This is applicable to existing and new businesses. In order for a
company to survive inflation, recessions, and booming markets, it has to
continue finding new ways to be a leader in the midst of competition. I liked
reading about how hiring nice people will lead to finding ethical people. That
makes sense because nice people will always feel compelled to follow the rules
and guidelines set by a company and feel morally obligated to help those in
need without taking advantage of the desperate.
During my readings, the ability to execute was mentioned as something rarely
found in people nowadays. That is absolutely true because nowadays people
prefer to be told what to do and how to do it rather than trying to find a
solution or taking initiative-taking. Also, technology has made us dependent on
other people or resources to find a solution or complete a task for us. That is
why it is crucial to have the right people on board in order to become a great
company. The CEO can have a beautiful vision of what the company's potential is
and the managers can have a detailed plan to achieve it, but if the personnel is
not right, then the company will not be able to reach the next level of
success.
Finally, I learned this week that being good is the enemy of
being great simply because being good is easy. In order to be great, requires
sacrifice and hard work. Not everyone is great in their field of expertise.
Only those who study harder and continue their education can gain more knowledge
than their competitors. Only those who put moral guard rails only achieve the
respect and loyalty of their employees and clients. Those who are great in turn
become great leaders and elevate those around them.
